Description
For auction is a rare and great condition early 2nd U.K. issue copy of Nick Drake’s stunning debut album - Five Leaves Left. These 1972 reissues are almost as rare as the original issues from 1969. Drake was still to be recognised for the genius we now know he is.
This is a very early second issue as a) it comes with the earlier 1st issue sleeve produced by Ernest J Day - there were still a few 1st issue sleeves left over after the poor sales of the original 1969 issue - and b) it has the very early stamper numbers 1G and 1R.
Original Ernest J Day gatefold sleeve in VG+ condition, with only minor edge wear and fading to the unlaminated surface. The spine is intact and fully legible.
Original light blue inner in EX condition, with only minor creases
Record labels - side 1 is VG+, with a minor mark and some small initials. Side 2 label excellent and unmarked.
Side 1. Visually record surface is clean, bright and shiny with no marks visible in either normal daylight or under a bright lamp. Visual grade EX+. A-3U matrix and 1G stamper. Sonically is great with only some occasional light crackle. No clicks, sticks skips or jumps.Graded as EX overall.
Side 2. In normal daylight is as clean and shiny as side 1. Again, only minor crackles as an issue. No clicks, sticks skips or jumps. B-3U matrix and 1R stamper. Graded as EX overall
Record lays flat on the turntable.
All in all a beautiful and very clean example of a rare and sought after record.
